چکیده
Introduction. Dermatomyositis is a rare systemic disease of connective tissue characterized by inflammation of the muscles and the skin. Malignant melanoma is a cancer that begins in melanocytes in the skin, mucosa of the rectum, intestine, oral cavity, external genitalia or in the eyeball. Objective. Presentation of a patient with dermatomyositis as a possible paraneoplastic syndrome of malignant melanoma. Case report. We present a case of a 56-year-old woman who was referred to us due to erythematous skin lesions on the limbs, face, neck and upper chest. The patient also complained of progressive muscle pain and weakness of the shoulder and pelvic girdle as well as of dysphagia. The patient had a small ulcerative lesion on the right foot that was removed. Histopathological evaluation revealed malignant melanoma cells, which were also present in the sentinel lymph node. Conclusions. Screening in dermatomyositis patients should also be focused on melanoma, especially in cases with negative antibodies.

The malignant melanoma is a neoplasm associated with a wide variety of cutaneous paraneoplastic syndromes, as dermatomyositis, systemic sclerosis, paraneoplastic pemphigus. We describe a case of four multiple trichilemmal cystis arising on frontal region in the same patient with brain metastasis and unknown primary melanoma and discuss their relationship.

Dermatomyositis (DM) is a connective tissue disease, characterized by proximal muscle weakness, typical skin rash, creatine phosphokinase (CK) elevation, electromyographic abnormalities and inflammatory lesions on muscle biopsy [1]. In adults with DM the most important feature is the increased incidence of malignancies. Several authors have reported coexistence of DM with various cancers (lung,...

Dermatomyositis (DM) is a rare idiopathic inflammatory myopathy with characteristic skin lesions. Case series have shown an association between dermatomyositis and malignancy. Malignancy has been found in 15-25% of the adult patients with dermatomyositis. A 50-year-old new case of breast cancer, was admitted with muscle weakness and inability to walk. Physical examination revealed fever, perior...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Adult dermatomyositis presents as a paraneoplastic syndrome in up to 25% of cases, but no clinical, histologic, or laboratory markers completely specific for paraneoplastic disease in dermatomyositis have been identified to date. Furthermore, studies on adult dermatomyositis do not usually report the frequency of cutaneous features of dermatomyositis in patients with...
متن کاملDermatomyositis paraneoplastic syndrome before symptomatic tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma: a case report.
BACKGROUND Paraneoplastic syndromes are systemic or organ-related functional tumor-associated changes that arise distant to the tumor. METHODS AND RESULTS We present a rare case of a 63-year-old man with dermatomyositis as a paraneoplastic syndrome developing more than a year before clinical manifestations of tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). He subsequently developed stage T1N2bM0 IVA...
